Safety answers

How do you share your live location while trail running?

Share your live location by giving a trusted person a link they can open in their web browser on any device, with no app needed. Tell them your route, expected duration, and check-in time before you start. Modern location-sharing apps like Holler create a link your Guardian watches in real time and alert you if you fall or stop moving unexpectedly.

Step by step

01Plan your route and timing

Before heading out, tell your Guardian the trail you're running, roughly how long it will take, and when you expect to be back. Set a specific check-in time so they know when to expect to hear from you.

02Generate and share a live location link

Use a location-sharing app to create a link you can text or email to your Guardian. They open it in any web browser, no download required, and can watch your location in real time as you run.

03Keep your phone accessible

Put your phone in a runner's pocket, armband, or vest where you can reach it quickly if you need to call for help. Make sure it's charged and has enough signal for the trail.

04Confirm they're watching before you start

Send the link, have your Guardian open it and confirm they see your location, then start your run. They'll know something's wrong if you don't check in at the agreed time or if the app alerts them to a fall or long stop.

What if my Guardian can't use the link or doesn't have a smartphone?

You can text or call them with your location before you start, or share the link on a computer they have access to. Even an older phone can open a web link in a browser. The key is having someone who knows your route and is expecting you back at a specific time.

Does the app automatically contact emergency services if I fall?

No. The app detects a fall or a long stop and sends an alert to your Guardian, who can then call 911 on your behalf if you don't respond. You also have a one-tap SOS button to call 911 directly yourself if you're able to use your phone.
