Terms of use
Updated September 28, 2026. Applies to the Holler iPhone app and holler.run.
Holler is not an emergency service. It does not contact 911 or any emergency service for you, and nobody at Holler monitors your outings. If you or someone else is in danger, call your local emergency number yourself.
What Holler is
Holler lets you share your live location during an outing with people you choose (“Guardians”), and tell them when you press SOS, miss the return time you set, or stop moving for longer than you chose. Holler is currently free and in beta: features may change, and the service may be interrupted while we improve it. Every safety feature is free. The optional Holler Plus subscription is described below. Monitored emergency dispatch is not available, and crash detection is an opt-in beta. Text message alerts are opt-in and not yet being sent (see below).
Who can use Holler
Holler is for all ages. If you are under 18, you need a parent or guardian’s permission to create an account and use Holler. Holler is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child under 13 has an account, email us and we will delete it.
Safety limits: please read
- Delivery is not guaranteed. Location updates, emails and notifications depend on your phone, battery, GPS signal, mobile data, our providers and your Guardians’ devices and inboxes. They can be delayed, filtered as spam, silenced by Focus or Do Not Disturb, or not arrive at all. Holler shows when your location last reached the server; it cannot confirm that a Guardian has read an alert unless they acknowledge it.
- Background tracking has limits. On iPhone, updates while the screen is locked need “Always” location permission. iOS may pause or slow updates in Low Power Mode, with poor signal, or when the phone is very low on battery, and updates stop if you force-quit Holler or the phone turns off. In a web browser, sharing only works while the page stays open and visible.
- Automatic alerts can be wrong. A stationary alert can fire when you have simply stopped (for example at traffic lights), or fail to fire if GPS drifts. A missed-return alert only fires if you set a return time. Neither replaces telling someone your plan.
- Location can be inaccurate, sometimes by hundreds of meters, especially indoors, under trees or between tall buildings.
- Medical ID is only what you typed. We do not check it, and Guardians or responders should not rely on it in place of medical assessment.
Use Holler as one part of a safety plan, not the whole plan: tell someone where you are going, carry identification, and call emergency services directly when needed.
Text message alerts
A Guardian can choose to get Holler safety alerts by text by entering their own US or Canadian mobile number on their invitation page and agreeing to the consent wording there. Texts cover that person’s SOS, missed check-ins, no-movement alerts and when they are marked safe, plus a one-time confirmation. Message frequency varies, typically a few per month. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help; for support email hello@holler.run. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages, and texts, like email, can be delayed or fail: they are not an emergency service. See the Privacy policy for how we handle mobile numbers.
Respect other people
- Share only your own location, voluntarily.
- Add only Guardians who have agreed to receive messages from you, and give their correct contact details.
- Do not use Holler to track anyone covertly, harass anyone, send unwanted messages, or raise false alarms.
- Keep your share links private; anyone with an active link can see your location.
Holler Plus subscriptions
Holler Plus is an optional subscription sold by Jake Gandolfo (the individual who operates Holler) in the United States and Canada. It costs $2.99 a month or $24.99 a year in US dollars, plus sales tax where it applies, and renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. New subscribers can get one 7-day free trial; if you don’t cancel before it ends, your chosen plan starts and you are charged. On holler.run you can cancel anytime in Settings, Holler Plus, Manage subscription, and you keep Plus until the end of the period you paid for. Subscriptions bought in the iPhone app are billed and refunded by Apple and managed in your Apple ID settings. For web subscriptions, email hello@holler.run within 14 days of a charge for a refund. If Plus ends, nothing is deleted: outings older than 30 days are hidden until you subscribe again and remain available to download or delete. Plus never adds or removes safety features; alerts to your Guardians work the same on every plan. We’ll give you at least 30 days’ notice before a price change for your subscription.
Your account and content
You are responsible for activity on your account and for the information you add. You keep ownership of it and let us store and show it only to run Holler as described in our privacy policy. You can end shares, remove Guardians, delete outings, and delete your account at any time in the app or on the web dashboard. We may suspend accounts that break these terms or put others at risk.
No warranty and limits on liability
Holler is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, including that it will be uninterrupted, accurate, or deliver any particular alert. To the fullest extent the law allows, Holler and its operators are not liable for any injury, loss or damage arising from a location update or alert that was delayed, inaccurate, or not delivered, or from reliance on the service. Some places do not allow these limits, so they apply only as far as your local law permits. Nothing here limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived.
Apple
If you downloaded Holler from the App Store, Apple’s standard licensed application end user license agreement also applies. Apple is not responsible for Holler or its support.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms as Holler changes; we will update the date above and tell you in the app or by email about significant changes. Questions: hello@holler.run or see Support.
