Holler vs Strava Beacon
Choose Strava Beacon for a workout link, or consider Holler when you also want a return-time check-in and alerts to your Guardians. Both let contacts view a link without an app. The useful difference is the response you want when an outing does not finish as planned, plus the requirements on the phone doing the sharing.

Where Holler is different from Strava Beacon
01A saved deadline for a missed return
Holler can save an optional return time. If you have not checked in five minutes after it, its server sends an overdue alert to the selected Guardians through the configured email or push channels. The plan must save first, and delivery and response remain necessary. A recent map position alone does not create that deadline.
02A share independent of workout recording
Use a Holler outing for a run, ride, hike or walk without needing to log a training activity. That can fit a trip home after the workout ends. Continuous sharing in the phone browser needs the page open and screen on; the native iPhone app is in private beta. Check those requirements against how you carry your phone.
03A manual SOS to your people
You can deliberately send an SOS to Guardians with location information. It is a request for their attention, not an emergency-service call. Holler does not contact emergency services. For an immediate emergency, call the appropriate emergency number instead of assuming a contact notification has summoned help.

01Fits an existing Strava recording habit
If recording in Strava is already how you start every run or ride, Beacon keeps the location-sharing step within that routine. You may not need a separate outing service when the job is simply to let someone view your progress. Confirm the current link reaches your contact and agree on how you will check in at the finish.
02Device options with their own requirements
Strava documents Beacon integrations for compatible devices, with subscription and connectivity conditions. If a watch or bike computer is central to your routine, inspect that specific setup. A general phone comparison does not establish what works on your device, and Holler's browser availability is not an equivalent watch integration.
Which should you pick?
Keep Beacon if its recorded-activity link and a clear contact plan meet your needs. Consider Holler if the missing step is a saved return time or a manual request to Guardians, and its browser or private-beta setup fits your phone use. Questions about Strava Beacon
Does Strava Beacon alert someone if I stop moving?
Strava says Beacon does not automatically message your contact because you stop. It provides a location link. Decide how someone will notice a missed return rather than treating access to that link as an alert.
Do contacts need an app for either option?
Both offer browser viewing without the recipient installing the product's app. That is a shared capability, not a reason by itself to switch. Review the setup on the sending phone and the way your contact will receive any alert.
Is Beacon free?
Strava's official Community Hub guide states that phone-app Beacon does not require a subscription. Connected-device options have their own requirements; check the documentation for your actual device. Holler is currently free during beta.
Can I use Strava and Holler together?
You can evaluate that arrangement, but this comparison does not verify simultaneous background performance on your phone. Practice with the screen state, permissions and apps you intend to use. Ending a workout should not be assumed to finish a separate safety check-in.
Will Holler tell someone if my phone dies?
A return time saved beforehand can still be processed by the server if you do not check in. That does not produce a fresh location from the phone, and it does not ensure that a recipient receives or notices the alert. Leave a route and response plan too.
