01Light the dog, not just yourself

02Shorten the leash near traffic

03Keep a hand free for the phone

04Plan for other dogs and wildlife

05Share longer or later walks
A quick loop around the block may not need it, but a long evening walk, a new neighborhood or a late-night outing does.
