How do you call for help if you cannot reach your phone?
Shout for help and use anything within reach that can call for you: a watch, a voice assistant, or a passerby. On iPhone you can say "Hey Siri, call 911," and Apple Watch can call emergency services from your wrist. If nothing works, your safety net is a person who knows your route and return time, because they'll notice you're late. A server-side overdue alert, like Holler's return time, warns them automatically even when you can't touch your phone.
What to do now, and what to set up before you go
01Use your voice first
If your phone is nearby but out of reach, try "Hey Siri, call 911." Apple lists this as a way to make an emergency call. Shout clearly to anyone nearby, and use a whistle if you carry one, since it carries farther than your voice and takes less effort to keep going.
02Reach for your wrist
A watch on your wrist is harder to lose in a fall than a phone in a pocket. On Apple Watch, press and hold the side button until the Emergency Call slider appears, then drag it or keep holding for the countdown. Apple says this needs cellular, satellite, or Wi-Fi calling from the watch or a nearby iPhone.
03Turn on automatic detection before you go
Apple Watch Fall Detection can call emergency services if you're immobile for about a minute after a hard fall, then a 30 second countdown ends. On Android 12 and later, Emergency SOS starts when you press the power button five or more times. Set both up at home, because you won't be able to in the moment.
04Tell someone your route and return time

05Let a timer raise the alarm for you
With Holler, set a return time when you start sharing. If you haven't checked in five minutes after it, Holler's server sends your Guardians an overdue alert with your live link, even if your phone is out of reach, dead, or has no signal. They see your last known location and can call 911 for you.
06Carry your phone where a fall won't throw it

What if I fall and can't move to my phone at all?
Call out to anyone nearby, try a voice command, and use your watch if you wear one. If none of that reaches anyone, stay as warm and still as you can and conserve energy. Someone who knows your return time, or an overdue alert, is what brings help, which is why setting one up before every solo outing matters.
Does Holler call 911 if I can't reach my phone?
No. Holler never contacts 911 or emergency services. It alerts your Guardians, who can see your last known location on the live map and call 911 for you. For a direct call to emergency services, use your phone's or watch's own Emergency SOS.
Can more than one person watch for me?
Yes. You can add several Guardians, and each gets the same live link and alerts by email and app or browser push. Two people watching means someone is likely to be free when an alert arrives, and any Guardian can tap to acknowledge it so the others know someone is checking.
What does a stationary alert add?
If you turn on Holler's optional stationary alert and stop moving for the time you choose, it asks "Are you OK?" and alerts your Guardians if you don't answer. It catches a fall sooner than waiting for a return time, though it can also trigger during a long rest.
